Why archery is a must for all nerds

I’ve been going to archery for about six months now and I love it! Here’s a few of the reasons why I love it so much.

Archery is better than a massage

It’s really good for getting the knots worked out in your shoulders and back. Anyone who spends way too much time on the computer knows that it’s no fun when your back starts jamming up and you start getting headaches. Archery lets you flex and stretch those neck and shoulder muscles especially if you have a bow with a draw weight a little more than you’re comfortable with (don’t go too nuts though!).

Concentration

When you’re aiming and shooting there’s really nothing else to do but to concentrate on what you’re doing. If you feel your mind wandering you can easily pull it back into the moment, it’s the ultimate mindfulness. It’s also downright dangerous to not be concentrating in archery, you wouldn’t want to hurt anyone. I’ve found the forced concentration to be really relaxing. My brain shuffles up ideas any time I have a spare moment and tries to get me to start working on them, so it’s nice to take time out where my brain can’t force me to work or do something computer-related.

The power!

Bows are awesome. They have a lot of power and when you start hitting the target you get a real boost.

The exercise

Everyone knows I’m not exactly fit.. or even close to fit. Archery is still really good exercise. You’re walking back and forth the whole time while collecting your arrows as well as drawing the bow and stretching those muscles. Yes you could do that in a gym… but where’s the fun in that?

Zombie preparation

Lauri says I’m the only person he knows that’s actually looking forward to the zombie apocalypse. I don’t think that’s true, many people (usually ones with crappy jobs) are waiting for it. When it arrives it won’t catch me off guard. Now I just need to start stockpiling arrows.
